STORY

Only 800 cases Produced!

Mat Kearney left Oregon and the grapevines in his parents’ backyard, and headed for Music City to see if he could make it as a musician. Hundreds of songs, four albums, and a few friends later, that journey brought him to the beauty of wine making.

“A good wine is like a good song; it tells a story, speaks to your soul, and even builds community. Verse & Chorus was dreamed up backstage, with my friends at Peju and John Anthony Vineyards, and made a reality with their families’ 60+ years of experience making wine in Napa Valley. It’s full of life, love and a little music. Turn it up and enjoy!”

- Mat Kearney

FLAVOR

This sustainably farmed, single vineyard, Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc displays flavors of crisp acidity balanced with notes of melon, lemon grass and mango.

DETAILS

The fruit was hand selected from a single vineyard in Napa Valley by John Truchard, and delicately made by celebrated winemaker Brian Brakesman, with Mat Kearney’s involvement from vine to blend, and bottle to label. The high quality of the Napa Fruit provides the foundational flavors and texture and little was done to the wine to let the delicate flavors of the terroir and vineyard shine.

ONLY 800 cases produced.

WINEMAKERBrian Brakesman

Brian was born and raised on Howell Mountain at Summit Lake Vineyards, a boutique family winery famous for its Zinfandel. Working alongside his parents and siblings, Brian developed an appreciation for the art and culture of winemaking, learning every step of the process from vine to bottle.

To formalize his education, Brian studied agricultural engineering at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Here, helearned of his exceptional aptitude for identifying the intricate details of wine composition and terrior, and further developed his intuitive grasp of the elements essential to winemaking.

After graduation, Brian spent a year traveling the world to broaden and develop his knowledge of wine, stopping for a season of wine and rugby in New Zealand. Wanderlust abated, and palate for worldly wines temporarily satiated, Brian returned home to Napa Valley. He immediately began working with acclaimed consulting winemaker John Gibson, formally of Stags Leap Wine Cellars and Vine Cliff Winery. Here,

Brian helped John make wines for celebrated clients including Snowden Vineyards, Andrew Geoffrey, and Salexis.

After apprenticing with Gibson for 3 years, Brian became the Assistant Winemaker for Duckhorn Wine Company's Paraduxx Winery. Under famed winemaker Bill Nancarrow’s tutelage, Brian learned to balance the complexities of large-scale winemaking with the high standards and intricacies associated with topnotch, legacy brands.

4 years later, Brian was hungry to run the show and accepted the Winemaker position at Ledson Winery in Sonoma. Employing the skills and unique enological insights developed over his lifetime, Brian made over

82 wines per vintage from a catalog of diverse growing regions over his 4-year tenure at Ledson, and significantly elevated the quality of wines and brand.

Today Brian is a contributing winemaker at J.W. Thomas Group, and Owner at burgeoning Red Thread Wine Co. and lives with his wife and children just around the corner from his family winery on Howell Mountain.

For many people red wine is the go-to partner for cheese, but red wine can easily overpower all but the most robust of cheeses. Whites are the unexpected best partners for most cheese. They are simply more acidic and fruity so they are natural partners for the saltiness in most cheeses and can cut through fat and creaminess. The bright acidity and upfront fruit in Verse & Chorus Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect example of a classic partner for a variety of cheeses from tangy goat cheeses to rich creamy Brie and Camembert. It’s a wine that avoids overwhelming the delicate flavors in cheese and creates a perfectly balanced experience.

This wine tastes like summer to me. All kinds of fruit flavors, a bit of grass, some honey and refreshing if you ice it way down. Well done and a new favorite. Great price too.

Ok, this Saivignon Blanc was an attention getter right out of the bottle. The glass was immediately filled with tropical fruit notes: pear, green apple, citrus and was nicely structured. Very fresh on the palate with a nice lift as you pass through the mid onto the finish. You'll love this wine.

One of my favorites- served chilled on the back deck after a long day. Crisp and refreshing!

Had this wine along side one of my favorite Napa Valley SB's and I was excited to find another SB that I liked just as much. Lush citrus notes on the pallet with a great aromatic nose. Great food wine. I look forward to my next bottle.
