Mat Kearney left Oregon and the grapevines in his parents’ backyard, and headed for Music City to see if he could make it as a musician. Hundreds of songs, four albums, and a few friends later, that journey brought him to the beauty of wine making.

“A good wine is like a good song; it tells a story, speaks to your soul, and even builds community. Verse & Chorus was dreamed up backstage, with my friends at Peju and John Anthony Vineyards, and made a reality with their families’ 60+ years of experience making wine in Napa Valley. It’s full of life, love and a little music. Turn it up and enjoy!”

- Mat Kearney

This rich and flavorful Bordeaux-style blend has complex aromas and flavors of dark, delicate Vanilla, deep black cherry and rich chocolate. Made to impress the most experienced oenophile and suit the palate of the casual wine drinker, Verse & Chorus was blended to enjoy right now and pair with the robust flavors of the holiday season.

The fruit was hand selected by John Truchard from two of the best, sustainably  family vineyards in Napa Valley and then blended to perfection by award winning winemaker Rob Lloyd, with Mat Kearney’s involvement from vine to blend, and bottle to label. The high quality of the Napa Fruit provides the foundational flavors and texture, but the use of multiple oak styles, toasts, and barrel coopers add complexity and spice to the tastes from the terroir.

While I'm no expert in wine, this was definitely better than anything else I've tried at this price-point. I got a lot of bakers chocolate and it was bold and smooth at the same time. A new favorite for sure and went perfectly with my steak and my wife's salmon too.

I make my living at finding wines that are way underpriced and this one more than qualifies! To find a wine this well balanced/crafted at this price? I label this wine as a "Stupid Good Buy"!

I rarely trust an "artist" wine to delivery on the qualities of a great wine. They too often rely on the name to sell you the juice. But this Verse & Chorus Red Blend is the real deal. Full bodied and flavor forward, this really opens up nicely after an hour or so. This is a wine I'll gladly drink at home with something off the grill, or proudly take to a dinner party. It's a winner.

My wife and I love this wine! The nose gives you dark fruit characteristics, some espresso, and a hint of spice. On the palate the cherry and raspberry comes to life, with a nice mid palate and pleasant finish. I can't believe you can get this wine at this price. If you haven't tried it, and there's any left (don't even bother within a 10 mile radius of where I live, I bought it all up:) get some. You'll blow your wine friends away, even the geekiest among them. Long live Verse & Chorus!

Cannot say enough about the quality of this great wine! As a lover of the reds, I'm a bit of a wine snob. I agree with some other reviews that often "celeb" wines lack quality, but this wine does not. It's full and rich and lovely with a variety of meals and the price is super reasonable. It left me singing a happy song :). Love Verse & Chorus!

I have been involved with this wine from the start but wanted to publicly thank the winemaking team for making such a fantastic wine, for being understanding about selling it for under $45 (recommended price based on quality of fruit, team and winemaking) and to Whole Foods for making this a Top 10 pick for 2013!!!

Rarely am I swayed away from my Pinots but V&C is awesome! Round, easy drinking and fruit forward but still sophisticated and restrained enough to hang in the much more expensive category. a GREAT value for the taste and quality. Also a great wine to give as a gift.. I've bought about 7-8 bottles and everyone has LOVED it! Thanks Mat et al!

This has become my "go to" wine when I want something that pairs well with food and doesn't' break the bank.

I enjoyed this wine from the moment I opened it until the final sip. It has so many well rounded characteristics. It is soft, supple, and elegant. A must buy!

Like classic rock album, Verse & Chorus is a wine that takes you on a journey from start to finish. With enchanting aromas of dark fruit, mineral, and spice; broad flavors of dark plum, raspberry, chocolate, wild herbs, and fine French oak; rich texture; and long, dry finish: It’s a masterful red wine which delights the sense. Your job is to simply push play and enjoy!

Verse & Chorus 2012 Red was a beauty …

Overdelivers on the nose with layers of deep black fruit, tobacco, dark chocolate, and an interesting herbal quality. Plush, ripe black cherry and currant flavors are balanced with surprising brightness; and supple tannins are carried through a long finish by an edge of orange peel.
